Butterflake Rolls

Candice asked me to email this recipe. I thought I'd put it out there for all of you as well. These are the rolls I get asked to make for every family gathering. They never last very long. This is my assignment for tomorrow as well. I usually double the recipe. (Steph feel free to add any secrets you've learned in making these.) Steph has carried on the tradition.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Butterflake Rolls (32 rolls)
1 T yeast
1 T sugar
1/4 c warm water
1 cup lukewarm milk (scalded and cooled) (yes, cooled...you don't want to kill your yeast.)
1/2 c butter
1/2 c sugar
3 eggs well beaten (beat these before adding to dough mixture)
3/4 tsp salt
4 1/4 cups of flour

Activate the yeast by sprinkling over the warm water and sprinkling 1 T sugar over that. After yeast is bubblely, mix in all the other ingredients. Knead well.

Let dough raise in a LARGE greased bowl for 5-6 hours or until double in size. (I rub a little oil on the dough to keep it from drying out and also cover with a clean dampened dish cloth.) Roll out half the dough, brush on melted butter and cut into 16 pie shaped pieces. Roll up starting at wide end and place on a greased cookie sheet. Brush again with melted butter. Let raise another 5-6 hours. (With good yeasts these days, I don't have to let it raise as long.)

Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 mins. or until golden brown.

You can make these ahead of time and even freeze them. Just cook them until they are light brown (but not doughy in the middle) and then you can put them back in the oven just before eating to finish browning. Yum, I can't wait for tomorrow.

Today was a Hard Day!

See our cute little dog? We had to put him to sleep today. It was so hard after having him for I think about 12 years. Santa rescued him from the pound as a puppy and gave him to Marissa for Christmas.

He was a great dog full of life until recently. He loved for you to throw his plastic bone and he would chase it and bring it right back to you...over and over and over again.

We are going to miss having him as a part of our family. (Thanks Candice for letting me lift these pictures from your blog. I just had to give Hobbes a little ode as a part of my grieving process. He really was a great dog.)

Wow...where does the time go?

Whew! What a relief. I had a big Twilight Premiere at Thanksgiving Point Theatre tonight. It went well and it seemed like everyone had a great time. The production company even sent 3 or 4 security guards to search bags, check in your cell phones with(no cell phones or any recording/picture taking devices.

All the women seemed to like it but my husband and son-in-law didn't like it at all. They thought they were taking an endurance test. Do guys get the whole romance thing anyway? My husband doesn't like any version of Pride and Prejudice either. He was so awesome to come and be my photographer though...that's true love.

Are you wondering where I've been? I didn't think so but I'm going to tell you anyway. I worked really hard so I could take some time off and then I went to a quilt retreat at Aspen Grove for 3 days and sewed like a wild women. I came really close to finishing four quilt tops. (Obviously they weren't to complex.) I would have finished all four but I forgot to bring extra fabric for borders. I can't even show you pictures of my projects because I think I am going to use them for Christmas presents and I don't want to spoil any surprises. I'm going for the homemade Christmas this year. Good thing I have a good stash of fabric to make things with.

Anyway, after the quilt retreat I was off to Hawaii for a week with my sister and parents. I will be able to show pictures of that when I get around to it. I got back Sunday and had to hit the road running to catch up with work and pull of this movie premiere. Life is busy but good. I feel blessed........and waaay behind. I should show you a picture of my dining room. All my Halloween decorations are still piled high on the table. I'm hoping to get them put away tomorrow but it looks like my day is already pretty full.

Can you believe Christmas is 34 days away. How is that possible? Does anyone have any great gift ideas? I've read some good tutorials out there for those glass magnet thingys and necklace pendants made from scrabble ties. I should have saved the links for you. Talk to you soon!
